John Forte to be released on December 22

On November 24, 2008, Forté's prison sentence was commuted by President George W. Bush. He was originally convicted and sentenced to the mandatory minimum 14 years, but is now set to be released from prison on December 22.

For those of you who don't know who he is...
John Forté is a Brooklyn-born rapper and producer. He co-wrote and produced two songs on the multi-platinum and Grammy-winning 1996 album, The Score, for The Fugees. He released his debut album, "Poly Sci," in 1998 which was produced by Wyclef Jean and "I, John" in 2002.

In 2000, Forté was arrested at Newark International Airport after accepting a briefcase containing $1.4 million worth of liquid cocaine; he was charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine and conspiracy to distribute. It was believed by many that he did not receive a fair trial, and an appeal of the mandatory minimum drug laws that would remove a judge’s discretion in a case , was filed on his behalf.
